Klingon Bird-of-Prey guide for star trek online players
Many STO power leveling klingon customers are thirsty for getting Bird-of-Prey for their characters. Well known for its fast speed and high maneuverability, Klingon Birds-of-Prey are ideal ships for fighting in groups. Moreover, as the only STO ships capable of cloaking in mid-combat, Birds-of-Prey can remain unseen by using the cloak. It is amazing. With the cloak, you can easily sneak behind your enemy and hit him before he even realizes what's going on. In Star Trek Online Bird-of-Prey is a Tier 1 to 5 class starship available to players of the Klingon Empire. The Bird-of-Prey is the first ship that players of this faction will be given (the B'Rel class). As players powerlevel STO to higher ranks in the Klingon Empire they will access to Birds-of-Prey at every rank but with different configurations. Below is the overview of the five sub-types Birds-of-Prey.
B'rel Bird-of-Prey
For klingon character, B'rel class Bird-of-Prey is the only ship available in Tier one. The wings of the ship have a feathered wing pattern on them to mimic a bird. The main hull has a dual ridged dorsal section with a neck leading off to the bridge. Much like its Federation counterpart B'Rel is also a ship with limited upgrade options. It does indeed pack more firepower but instead has weaker hull. The shield strength is the same between B'Rel and Light Cruiser. The most prominent difference is a much better maneuverability found in Klingon B'Rel, which enables you to almost always have your aft weapons faced at your opponents’ rear. By continuously firing at your enemies rear shield you will quickly burn them and be able to fire torpedoes on the exposed hull which can quickly dispose of any enemy. Since your rear side will almost never face your opponent it's wise to equip a turret in that weapon slot since, as we already established, it can fire in a 360 degree arc.
QulDun Bird-of-Prey
When powerleveling STO to Tier 2, you can choose QulDun Bird-of-Prey as your ship. The QulDun Bird-of-Prey is slightly different to the first model that players experience. Although using a classic Klingon design for the starship, it features no feathered wing pattern on its wings. The bridge section of the hull is more pointed than and not as big as the B'rel. The main hull is also slightly larger. Although it features one less point into its turn rate this is not noticeable and the ship still maneuvers extremely well. The ship benefits from an extra forward weapon and tactical console slot, and is capable of housing one universal Lieutenant Station.
Norgh Bird-of-Prey
After you upgrade to Tier 3, Norgh Bird-of-Prey will be among your options. The Norgh Bird-of-Prey aesthetically is very similar to the QulDun however features a much wider wing arc and an elongated bridge section. The ship is an average upgrade to the QulDun. It has primarily one Lt Commander Bridge Officer slot, one extra aft weapon slot and an extra Engineering console slot. The extra Engineering slot however can be very beneficial as it allows players to slot an EPS Flow Regulator and an alloy to increase damage resistance rather than one or the other on previous models.
Ki'tang Bird-of-Prey
Once you do star trek online power leveling to reach Tier 4, Ki'tang Bird-of-Prey is available. The Ki'tang is the Captain Tier Bird-of-Prey available to Klingon Empire players. It has a much more narrow wing-span than the lower models. It regains its feathered wing design which was not seen since the B'rel. The ship is a decent upgrade over the Norgh. It has more hull strength and is the first Bird-of-Prey to carry a Commander level Bridge Officer, but it has a slightly worse turn rate and no additional weapon slots although the extra tactical console slot can help. This ship's default equipment is only Commander level, and it is recommended players replace these items immediately.
Hegh'ta Bird-of-Prey
The Hegh'ta is the last in the line of Birds-of-Prey available to Klingon players and is available at the General rank. It is the smallest vessel and has the lowest hull strength out of any of the faction's end-game ships. However, due to its huge turn rates and the fact it has universal bridge stations it still is a very competent ship. Its design and features resemble that of the Ki'tang, the only major differences being the more out-spread wings and extra weapon slot mounted on the underside of the vessel.
